Some of the beaches, such as NOS and Pedi are accessible on foot, while others are only accessible via boat. Some of them are fully equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds and restaurants while some others are more secluded.
There are also many hidden coves and small bays you can visit by boat.
NOS
The nearest beach to Yialos. It is a beautiful and popular beach overlooking the port entrance. It offers peace as well as many amenities (restaurant, coffee, sunbeds etc) for truly relaxing holidays.
Agios Georgios Disalonas
The 300 m. steep rock imposing over this beach creates a unique breath-taking scenery and makes it one of the most impressive beaches in the world.
You can only access it by boat and there are no restaurants nor any amenities. You have to go there prepared, with water and anything you might need.
Agios Nikolaos
One of the most popular beaches of Symi, with sand and pebbles, natural shade under the pine trees, safe for swimming and with an excellent restaurant and bar. Ideal for families with small children as it is very shallow and warm. It is accessible by boat and on foot from Pedi.
Nanou
A beautiful, scenic beach in front of a cypress forest. Nanou is accessible by taxi-boat as it is quite a long walk from anywhere. It is a beach hidden behind high hills with crystal clear water and vividly coloured fish, ideal for diving. There are sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a very good restaurant for homemade local delicacies and refreshments.
Marathounta
A narrow bay with beautiful translucent water. It is accessible by taxi-boat as well as by road. This bay is ideal for swimming and diving. There is also a new restaurant with delicious food, snacks and refreshments.
Toli
A beach situated on the north side of the island, accessible by car or boat. The new, excellent restaurant, the sunbeds as well as the beautiful clear water have made Toli one of the most popular destination for beach lovers lately.
Faneromeni
A beautiful bay which is accessible on foot from Panormitis.
Panormitis
Panormitis bay is located on the south side of the island. Here you will find the famous monastery of Archangel Michael, which attracts thousands of visitors every summer and on the Saint’s celebration day. Next to the monastery you will find a beach for swimming, restaurants and small shops for the visitors. You can also visit Panormitis on a daily cruise from Rhodes.
Sesklia
This is a lovely island on the south tip of Symi, with crystal clear water and peaceful atmosphere.
Pedi
Pedi settlement has a beautiful sandy beach. The bay of Pedi is a popular destination for Symi and it is located at the eastern side of the island, a short walk from the port (Yialos). Pedi has a few small bays and can be your base to other beaches which are accessible either by taxi-boat or on foot. There is also a bus to Pedi beach from Yialos and here you will find a lot of traditional restaurants. There are sunbeds and umbrellas and it is easily accessible on foot, from Horio. The area is very popular with visitors as there are a lot of early Christian church ruins as well as the temple of Saint George.
Agia Marina
Agia Marina, on the northern side of the entrance of Pedi bay, is accessible on foot or by taxi-boat from the port or from Pedi. There is a new, traditional restaurant as well as sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. Here you will relax with some refreshments from the well-stocked bar or enjoy a light lunch. On a small island opposite the bay, there is a picturesque church, very popular for romantic destination weddings. The water is beautiful and clear, ideal for diving.
Emporios
Emporios or Nimporio is a developing tourist resort, near Yialos, accessible on foot and by car.
Giala
Giala is the second port of the island and it has a picturesque settlement and a beautiful beach. Giala is a large pebbled beach, accessible on foot from Symi port (about 15-20 minutes)
Maroni
A pretty beach which is accessible only by boat or private yacht.
Nimos
This little island on the northern tip of Symi has a beautiful clear pebbled beach. You can visit it by boat and swim in the endless Aegean blue.
Agios Emilianos
A picturesque beach on a peninsula so narrow which creates a small island, on which lies a beautiful church.
Agios Vasilios
Agios Vasilios or Lapathos beach is not accessible via taxi-boat (except at some days during the high season). If you wish to visit this beach, it is only accessible via a two hour walk. It is a nice and secluded beach, without any facilities, which means that you have to take with you water and food and anything else you might need. It is ideal for nudism and it is mainly pebbled with small sandy patches. There are some trees for shade but no sunbeds. The last part of the walk is a little rough so make sure you wear good trekking shoes.
